Native is pioneering a path beyond the narrow confines of carbon-centric perspectives by enabling individuals and organizations to invest in the conservation and regeneration of a broad spectrum of ecosystems, both terrestrial (green) and marine (blue), with subcategories for conservation (conserving NbS which are in danger of being degraded or lost due to human activity) and regeneration (regenerating NbS where previously they have been degraded). This includes, but is not limited to, forests, mangroves, peat bogs, coral reefs, seagrasses, kelp forests, seabeds, and Marine Protected Areas.

The term NbS is increasingly used to describe these vital ecosystems and their contributions to both planetary health and economic stability.

Blue NbS generally involve a higher carbon density than Green NbS, although Green NbS have the advantage of being supported by more extensive research and data availability derived from satellite imagery.
