Cherry Swayne's commitment to environmental impact was evident when she first encountered Native during a Climate Connection networking event at the Conduit. Cherry Swayne is a Climate Connection Community Partner and as an ambassador for Climate Connection, Rob was presenting Native’s mission and vision onstage.
Inspired by Native's innovative approach to conservation, she sought a more holistic method to contribute to climate solutions beyond simply tree planting.
"We're always looking at ways we can give something back and do something to not just talk the talk but walk the walk when it comes to climate," Cherry shared.
Previously, Above and Beyond Recruitment planted ten trees for every successful placement. While reforestation remains crucial, Cherry recognised the importance not just of planting trees but also protecting existing mature ecosystems, which serve not just as effective carbon sinks, but also vital habitats for countless species, among many other ecosystem services.
Integrating Native Squares into Recruitment
The partnership with Native introduces a transparent and impactful way to contribute to conservation efforts. For every placement made, Above and Beyond Recruitment now purchases two Native Squares—each representing 3m² of protected or restored rainforest—as well as planting five trees.
"The fact that Native had this really neat way of pitching this offering... it was really clear, and it was really demonstrable, and easily shareable and communicable to your clients," Cherry noted. “In terms of customer service the onboard process was super smooth and easy,” she added.
This approach allows Above and Beyond Recruitment to showcase tangible environmental contributions to clients, reinforcing their commitment to sustainability.
Empowering Indigenous Communities and Biodiversity
Native's model ensures that 80-90% of the revenue from each Square directly benefits indigenous communities, supporting their efforts to protect and restore vital ecosystems. This aligns with Above and Beyond Recruitment's values of making a meaningful impact and supporting communities that are integral to conservation efforts.
